Storehouses in the Hydrological Cycle? Answering the Atheist

Inquiry:

Answering the Atheist, storehouses

Ecclesiastes 1:7 reads, “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.” This is part of a description of the hydrological cycle. However, Job 38:22-23 reads, “Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, while i have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?” Storehouses are NOT part of the cycle! Is there a contradiction?

Response:

If indeed the Lord is Creator and Sustainer of the earth, can He not control the elements? The text Job 38:22-23 is not intended to describe the hydrological cycle. It is an acknowledgment of the greatness of God and the limitations of man. Does man have control over the weather? No, but God certainly is able to exercise control over such (ie. Exodus 9:22-26).

In a figurative sense, the Lord holds in His power the “storehouses” of all weather patterns, whether we speak of sun, rain, snow, hail, floods, etc..

There is no contradiction.
